Building on the strong foundation we established in the autumn term, the Maths-Whizz efficacy trial, conducted in partnership with the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) and the NFER, continues to deliver remarkable results across schools. With our technology being implemented with even greater fidelity and aligned to proven teaching practices, the positive impact on both student outcomes and school improvement is gaining momentum. Here’s how far we’ve come and the transformational change that’s underway.
Progress You Can Measure
From the outset, our mission with Maths-Whizz has been to create consistent, meaningful learning experiences by integrating the tool seamlessly into daily teaching. This focus is delivering real, measurable improvements across key performance indicators and making a tangible difference in students’ educational outcomes.
To date, the impact seen in our internal data has been remarkable. Students have spent over 475,466 hours actively learning on the platform, mastering more than 2 million new learning objectives. These efforts have not only enhanced their understanding but also boosted their confidence and skills, empowering them to achieve their full potential. Notably, 63% of students have used Maths-Whizz in the recommended way and have achieved maths outcomes equivalent to 16 weeks of additional progress beyond what we typically expect at this point in the year, solidifying the platform’s effectiveness in fostering accelerated learning.
Our data also aligns with insights from schools, highlighting the difference Maths-Whizz is making in classrooms. One school reported a 9% increase in students achieving expected standardised maths outcomes among those using Maths-Whizz, compared to just 5% improvement in their controlled cohort. These early school assessment results affirm the strength of Maths-Whizz in transforming learning experiences and driving impactful progress for students.
Educators’ Insights and Student Voice
Beyond the numbers, the impact of Maths-Whizz resonates through the voices of students and educators alike. Feedback from our ‘student voice’ opportunities has shown that the platform nurtures social and emotional development at an impressively accelerated rate compared to peers who aren’t using it. One student shared their love for Maths-Whizz, stating, “It’s like climbing a rock wall, and if you fall, you don’t need to worry. It helps you get back up.”
Educators have also shared their observations of this transformation:
One teacher remarked, “We recently had a parents’ evening. Every single parent commented on their child’s increased love of maths. The children are looking forward to maths lessons… if given a choice, they ask for more maths! I’ve also noticed their bonding over maths has grown… they’re more willing to try, fail, and try again. We recently reviewed maths in school, and the pupil’s voice was amazing. Years 2 and 4 (the groups using Maths-Whizz) were overwhelmingly positive!”
Another educator highlighted the platform’s benefits for students with additional needs, saying, “Children who have in the past struggled with basic maths skills are now more confident and more willing to participate in lessons. Assessment of number bonds has shown improvement. It’s been a great resource for our SEND pupils to use as part of our maths curriculum; it really captures their concentration.”
These stories are a testament to how Maths-Whizz is not only transforming abilities but also building the confidence and resilience pupils need to thrive in maths and beyond.
Looking Ahead
As we move into the summer term, we are committed to consolidating the progress made so far. This term presents the ideal opportunity to reinforce key concepts, embedding mastery within students’ long-term learning journeys.
We are immensely proud of the dedicated efforts of our partner schools, whose exceptional implementation has been vital in achieving such outstanding early outcomes. It’s inspiring to see the synergy between high-quality teaching and innovative technology driving sustainable improvement. What’s even more encouraging is how internal school assessments continue to reflect the tremendous progress we’ve witnessed firsthand.
Looking forward, we’re excited to close this academic year with a comprehensive review in our final blog, where we will showcase the cumulative impact of this groundbreaking trial. The progress achieved so far underscores the transformational potential of Maths-Whizz and sets the stage for the full independent evaluation by NFER in February 2026. We eagerly anticipate seeing the broader evidence align with the success already realised in classrooms.
To the schools, teachers, and pupils who have championed this work, we extend our heartfelt thanks. Together, we’re reshaping the future of maths education and helping students unlock their full potential. Stay tuned for more updates and success stories as we continue this exciting journey!
