Ever halved a recipe or split a pizza between siblings? That’s fractions in action! Whether it’s measuring ¾ cup of flour or dividing 6 hot buns between 3 kids, cooking is a delicious way to introduce children to maths.
Even grocery shopping becomes a maths lesson – “If 1kg of carrots costs £2.00, how much for 500g?” They’re using division and multiplication without even realizing it.
🔸 Why timing, estimation, and sequencing matter when planning playdates
What time should we leave to make it to the park by 3 PM? How long will it take to walk there? Estimating time, sequencing steps (“First we go to the shop, then the playground”), and figuring out durations help children build logical thinking and scheduling skills – critical for everyday planning and time management.
🔸 The role of maths in pocket money, game scores, and even Easter crafts
Counting coins, deciding how to spend pocket money, tracking points in a board game, or folding paper for a perfect Easter bunny craft – all of these activities develop maths fluency.
Children learn about value, addition, subtraction, and even geometry through everyday play and creative time.
